Artists for a Better World International® | Artists Uniting to Make a Difference!

Barbara has been in the arts in some fashion her whole life, dabbling in dance at the age of four, then going on to take guitar lessons at ten years old. She learned old classic folk songs from a teacher near her home town of Woodland Hills, CA.  She also loved to paint and draw in school but that never stuck.  Instead she was more interested in painting pictures with words, and wrote many poems and dozens of songs starting in her teens.  As a shy teen she found this a way to express her feelings and share important messages with her friends and others.

At age nineteen she studied the works of L. Ron Hubbard, and learned a lot about communication, and much of that shyness melted away.  Later she became familiar with Hubbard’s works that deal with the importance of the artist to society.  She was then inspired to write uplifting songs that encouraged others to reach for their dreams. This led to a vision of a magical planet where artists created freely.  Then the Mission of the Artist was born and the story was written.  Barbara knew that one problem with artists is that they tend to think they operate best on their own, and do not need a group.  However, they often fall prey to those who don’t have their best interests in mind and try to persuade them to go against their integrity. While simultaneously writing her story she came up with the idea of a group of artists who unite as a team and support one another, and work towards a more ideal world, and thus Artists for a Better World was born in 1997.

Shortly after forming AFABW Barbara also got into event production. Over the years she has produced hundreds of shows and several art festivals, utilizing the talents of those in the group, as well as affiliated artists. Barbara has performed at many of the AFABW events, and even did a full production of the Mission of the Artist musical at a few of the groups’ festivals in Hollywood.

Some of her other credits include book signings at various Barnes and Noble stores; radio air play of her song entitled "Goodwill" in Seattle, WA on the Larry King show for the 1990 Goodwill Games;  Talent Coordinator and Performer in the "Celebrate Creativity" show put on by Broadway and Vegas producer, Joe Casini; Performance at a Human rights rally in Frankfurt Germany for eight thousand people; Radio air play of her song Mission of the Artist on KCHO, KLOS and EZ Way radio as well as airplay of  a song called Planet of Peace in Cairns Australia that she co-wrote with Dan Weitzman.

Barbara continues to produce events and weave her own talents into AFABW activities, as well as going out into public venues and performing and meeting new artists.

Mission of the Artist is the vanguard that is there as a message to other artists and art supporters to invite them to join forces to uplift our troubled world.
